Forty minutes on horseback

Miguel is 17, in tenth grade, and lives with his grandparents in Loma Verde, a rural village in Montería. Before school, he milks the cows, gets the firewood ready and hulls the rice. He gets to class on foot and on horseback, in about forty minutes.

He trained for the javelin at home with whatever he had, and the first real javelin he ever saw was at the championship. He fell in love with English, and thanks to it he traveled to Peru this year, to Lima and Cusco. Today he dreams of becoming an engineer.
